"What People Are Saying"
We first met Don and his family when he was assigned to our rural congregation near Alliance, Ohio. Don was a breath of fresh air. His sermons and his worship style were inspiring. He frequently preached a sermon series and he always preached from Holy Scripture. The congregation grew under his leadership. In later years he became a leader in the UMC on how to grow a congregation. His ministry at our congregation was the most successful in its history. I believe that this website can be a useful resource. I admire Don for creating it.

To say that I am humbled to follow the ministry of Don Cummings, is to put it mildly. Mayfield Church is well-known throughout our conference as a place of vital and meaningful ministry. Your story is reflective of Don's keen sense of leadership, his love for Christ, and the years you have shared together. I am honored to call him my friend.

Because of Don Cummings I have two birthdays. He led me to Christ when I was 13 years old. He is not just my biological sibling, he is my brother in Christ.

Thank you for leading us where we needed to go in our worship planning today. It is our joy to share this great adventure of faith to which God has called us with you.

Your website is so good. It will help many! It’s really good.Dr. Timothy C. Walker
It has long been debated whether the sermon has seen its day as an effective means of communication. Someone observed years ago that eventhough he could not remember what his wife served him for dinner last week, he knew he has been nourished by her cooking through all the years they have been married. He said that preaching is ike that. Ongoing exposure to the preached Word of God nourishes our soul.
Paraphrased from a letter to the editor in Christianity Today in the early 1970s
How do we find God? Many have asked this question only to discover it is God who finds us. God's prevenient grace prepares our hearts to receive him before we even know we are seeking him. God's saving grace brings forgiveness and redemption from sin. God's sanctifying grace leads us into increasing conformity to the character of Christ. The life with God is nurtured through means of grace which are prayer, searching the scriptures, attendance at the Lord's Supper, fasting, and Christian conference (small group accountability).

The church that lives in and with the Gospels testifies to a sense of being directly addressed by Jesus.

Called to rightly divide the Word of God
Preachers always race toward next Sunday
And often their creative process freezes up
But inspiration comes from many sources
